Okkervil River, the Austin-bred brainchild of singer/songwriter Will Sheff, released an online video game companion to their ambitious album The Silver Gymnasium in 2013. The browser-based game takes players on an 8-bit adventure that pays homage to video games of the 1980’s (Maniac Mansion, King’s Quest, Leisure Suit Larry), and features 8-bit chip tune versions of songs from the album.
Players who complete the game received a special code to download an EP created by Okkervil River front man, Will Sheff, featuring expanded 8-bit mixes of The Silver Gymnasium and other songs used in the game.
