They Want My Soul was Spoon’s eighth studio album. It was released on August 5, 2014 through Loma Vista Recordings, and is considered the last of an unbelievable six-album stretch that included 2001’s Girls Can Tell, 2002’s Kill the Moonlight, 2005’s Gimme Fiction, 2007’s Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, 2010’s Transference, ending with They Want My Soul.

The album art was shot by surreal photograph Todd Baxter whose idea was for “the images to feel like film stills from a 70’s psychological thriller.” Music videos for both “Do You” directed by Hiro Murai, and “Inside Out” directed by Mau Morgó followed in a similar vein.

The band performed songs from They Want My Soul on The Tonight Show, The Daily Show, Letterman and Kimmel. Britt Daniel was also a guest on “WTF with Marc Maron” as part of the campaign.
