For Mister Mellow, Washed Out’s third studio album and first for Stones Throw, artist Ernest Greene commissioned 10 illustrators, animators, and filmmakers to create visual accompaniment each of the album’s songs. He enlisted Saturday Night Live’s Kyle Mooney to host a fictional TV program where Mooney premiered the film with Greene as his guest. The film premiered in Los Angeles at the Vista Theatre.
For the ambitious live production around the album, Washed Out worked with visual artist John King aka Timeboy (Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, Flying Lotus) and Microsoft to bring the album visuals to life using Microsoft Kinect technology.
